I DNA tested some years ago and my only surname match is a known cousin. Yet I have a reasonably close match with a Wollard and a Vaughn. My Haplo group is R1a1. I understand that may have arisen in the Steppes and migrated to Scandanavia. My earliest known ancestor was Russell Sullivan b. 1789 probably in North Carolina.

I don't see any Sullivans on the Ulster group. Does that tell me that the Sullivans prior to about 1790 were all located around the Bantry Bay area of southwest Ireland?

If the name O'Suilebhain (Sullivan) originated around Bantry Bay, how could Sullivans have gone from Scandanavia to Ulster?

Thanks for any help.

Hugh
