Hi Russ

My ancestor Mary Alice Cosgrove married 1. Thomas Mitchell Beaton/Bethune 2. Robert Menzies no issue with 2nd marriage, with my gt g/mother however he did have 2 issue with his 1st wife, ( to be confirmed) and just to confuse things they were called Robert and William( have been unable to locate a birth cert yet)

Robert's parents where a Robert Menzies and Ann(e) Black and I believe this Robert was also married twice his 1st marriage was to a Sarah Borland and I have seen some trees where the name is Margaret Borland.

I dowloaded a copy of Robert's death certificate and his parents are listed as Samuel Menzies and Jane Barr and he was married to Ann Black and Sarah Borland.

My family story handed down  is someone from this Menzies family moved to Australia - and it is one of their descendants who went on to become Prime Minister of Australia -  Robert Menzies. This is still to be confirmed, as I haven't research any further

Hi Mary
Thank you for responding , there may be a glimmer still out there for me .
Could you please give me an idea of the time frameof the marriage date of the second marriage of Mary Alice to Robert , From what you are telling me is that Robert was married 3 times. Also please the location. I am only showing one daughter from his first marriage to Sarah Borland and I have as being born 1849.
I have found no connection of any sort in the story of having Robert Gorden Menzies in our side of the Menzies Clan, RGM`s family came to oz around the 1840`s.
I have found that the natives of Scotland love the name of Robert and William and it makes life difficult in Family History. I found 3 families of Menzies in NZ one is connected to Me,  the other 2 I have personally visited over there and have had no luck with connections.  if you noted what my Surname is  Antrim I have as much trouble with it as Menzies. Awaiting your reply,
Russ Antrim

Do you have ancestry -  I can send you an invite to my tree

I don't have any info on Robert and  his 2 wives Sarah  or Ann.  Robert and Ann's son also Robert was born around 1860s he married Mary Alice Cosgrove 1899, and I am annoyed with her. Mary took 10 years off her age, gave a different mother's name  and put my grandfather and his older brother into a home, when she married Robert.

I will send you on Robert and mary marriage cert

Mary

Have been unable to locate the marriages so far  for Robert and sarah borland and Ann Black -  I  would look in Greenock or Port Glasgow.  I have sent   you on a link of all the BMD indexes that appeared in the Greenock Telegraph/Advertiser the newspaper of the time, and have included it below as well.  Also a  link to the directories for the above areas as well
